RAL CLASSIC colour 4-digit references have been an accepted format for colour definition for more than 70 years.

This basic collection consists of more than 200 colours and is available as a fan-deck, booklet or chart in a gloss or semi-matt finish.

The RAL Effect range (3+1 digits) consists of 420 solid colours and 70 metallic colours, based on waterborne paint systems.

Each colour family has 6 solid colours and a harmonious, matching metallic colour.
The RAL Effect colours comply with relevant European EN and ISO standards.

BS colour guide

BS 5252 is the British Standard framework for colour co-ordination for building purposes and incorporates derived standards such as those for paints (BS 4800), vitreous enamel (BS 4900), plastics (BS 4901), sheet and tile flooring (BS 4902).

BS 381C is the range for special and mixed colours, particularly for military use. .

BS 2660 is an old colour standard for building and decorating, now largely superseded by BS 4800

CIELab colour guide

CIELab colour fans have been developed for advanced colour management and represent the full colour space, either in terms of Hue Lightness and Chroma or L*a*b* values. These fans are suitable for researchers and designers wishing to examine harmonies within the complete colour spectrum.

The CIELab colour fans have 6 colours per leaf - palette size 55mm x 15mm - and include Lab / HLC / RGB / CMYK / Hex colour values​.

Federal Standard 595C from 2008 is now obsolete and has been superseded by AMS Standard 595A from 2017 and administered by SAE®.
